How does the process work when you scrap a car?

Please call our scrap yard, closest to you, for specific questions and to verify if there are any additional rules that may apply at that particular yard.

  • Remove Personal Belongings
  • Remove License Plates
  • The car must have a clean title, without any lien. If you do not have the title, please reach out to the local buyer for assistance before bringing the car.
  • The gas tank must be COMPLETELY empty with a hole the size of a fist in it. (This will be checked before you can scrap the vehicle).
  • The battery must be removed. (This will be checked before you can scrap the vehicle).
  • In addition, customer selling the car must have a valid driver’s license.

How much is my car worth?

We buy all material, including cars, based on weight. Therefore, you would need to know exactly what your car weighs in order for you to determine how much money you would get for it. For a rough estimate of your car’s weight, research what the “curb weight” is for your vehicle.

Do you sell materials for projects/blacksmithing/etc.?

No. Our permits and licensing require us to process all material and sell directly to steel mills and other end use processors.

Do you pick up material or do I have to drop it off?

For large quantities of material. we can drop off roll-off containers, for a fee, that customers can fill up themselves. Smaller items such as washers, dryers, etc. would need to brought directly to us.

Are appointments needed for selling my scrap metal?

No, it is not necessary. It’s typically a first-come, first-served basis.

Will your yard sponsor our team or charity?

We are always looking for ways to support the communities that we operate in and around. We are happy to take a look and see if we can help. Please understand that we are asked daily for sponsorships, and we can only do so much. Email us at info@jsmith-sons.com for more information about sponsorships and donations.
